Which Door Has Better Feng Shui?
by Ondine Brooks Kuraoka
Though many people associate Feng Shui with superstition, it is actually a study of the environment and how it affects people, similar to environmental psychology. Cathleen McCandless, a respected consultant for the past 17 years, was named “Best Feng Shui Expert” by San Diego Magazine.
Cathleen says, “We look at the emotional/psychological benefit to those who will be living in that space, so the front door is an important part of any home. There is a two-fold purpose to the front door; one is the first impression, and the second is from a safety/comfort point of view. There’s a superstition about having a red front door but that’s not part of proper Feng Shui. When you feel safe, you’re comfortable and when you’re comfortable, you relax. The ultimate goal is to create a feeling of comfort and safety in the home so you can relax and enjoy life. The fact is, a solid front door feels safer.”
Cathleen suggests that for more light, you can install a skylight or a window above the front door.
So using Cathleen's criteria, we pick Door #B as the winner!
