Spiffing Up Your Streetscape

—[ ask robin ]—

Dear Robin,
Do you have simple suggestions for improving the curb appeal of our home?
— Ellen M.

Dear Ellen,
Whether you are living in the neighborhood of your dreams, or considering hanging out that “for sale” sign, all of us can spruce up our streetscapes. Walk across the road and take a glance at your home’s façade. Does it say, “I’m proud as punch to live here?” If not, here are a few low budget ideas for enhancing your curb appeal.

- Give the front a good cleaning: Shine up windows and door hardware. Also, eliminate spider webs and dust bunnies that have accumulated from the winter months.
- Get rid of weeds and cut back shrubs that have become leggy or woody.
- Consider a fresh coat of paint for the front door.
- If needed, replace the handle and lockset.
- Add a bench at the entry, or perhaps a few new flower pots or fresh annuals around the borders.

Follow these quick and easy tips and in no time, your house will have an “it’s great to see ya!” kind of attitude.
