The recently opened Pearl Hotel in Point Loma provides visitors and locals a stylish oasis that mixes retro with modern. The 23-room facility offers three different types of rooms: The Strand, Jewel and Gem, all designed with chic appointments more commonly seen in downtown’s boutique hotels. Formerly the outdated Sportsman Lodge, the transformed property also features a sleek bar and restaurant, outdoor cabanas and a modest-size swimming pool, where “dive-in” movies are shown on a giant screen at 8 p.m., every Wednesday, allowing locals to mingle with hotel guests. Residents in the 92106 and 92107 zip codes receive 20 percent discounts on overnight stays.
