Choosing a Cosmetic Surgeon

by Michele Krauss

After careful consideration, you’ve made the decision to go ahead with cosmetic surgery. Whether you’ve chosen to have a minor nip or a major tuck, selecting the right surgeon to perform the procedure can be a snap – if you follow these steps…

1. Check the surgeon’s credentials and experience
Don’t be afraid to check and verify the surgeon’s medical license, certifications, and professional memberships. Ask questions about the specific procedure you’re considering: how many times has your surgeon performed it? How often?

2. Get referrals from friends
Speaking to someone who’s had a similar, successful procedure will make you more aware of the benefits and risks involved.

3.Look at before and after photos
Before and after photos of previous clients can give some insight into your surgeon’s skill, but do keep in mind that individual results are unique.

4. Seek out good vibes
Find a surgeon with whom you feel comfortable and at ease. It’s also important to have this same good rapport with the staff. You should always feel that your needs are being addressed and that you’re never being brushed off.

5. Beware the bad doctor
Your inner red flag should snap to attention if your prospective surgeon seems impatient or tries to pressure you into surgery. Also be wary of a doctor who’s open to performing several procedures at once. Any operation is traumatic for the body, but having more than one only compounds it, and raises the risk of complications.
