Barra Barra Now Open in Old Town

Old Town San Diego State Historic Park is known for capturing the ambiance of California’s first European settlement at the time California was evolving from a Mexican pueblo to an American frontier town. But for some, the festive atmosphere that existed when Bazaar del Mundo was in the state park has been sorely missed.

Fiesta de Reyes, operated by Old Town Family Hospitality Corp., is hoping to woo back locals with lively ambience, great food and fantastic service. Festooned with true 1850s California-style antiques, collectables and paintings, Barra Barra is the first of three restaurants to open at Fiesta de Reyes. A restaurant and saloon with indoor and outdoor seating, Barra Barra boasts Indian flatbread tacos and its signature drink, “The Best Margarita in Town… For Only 5 Bucks.” Made with top-shelf Herradura Blanco tequila, agave nectar, fresh-squeezed lime juice and Cointreau, Barra Barra’s signature margarita is priced less than half of what it might cost at another establishment.

Interior designers Laurel Smith and Laurie Wilson of Laura y Laura hand-selected the finest Latin American furnishings for Barra Barra. Right down to the last detail, Barra Barra transports diners to a San Diego of years past. Accessorized with tin mirrors, custom rustic chandeliers and lanterns, funky shutters, various shapes of pottery and Mexican folk art, every nook and cranny holds a delightful relic.

Never swaying too far from its Latin roots, one wall of the bar features two racks displaying more than 60 bottles of different hot sauce. Outside, two fire pits and large chandeliers add warmth and charm to the patio dining area.

The new Fiesta de Reyes is located between Juan and Calhoun streets inside Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, a one-block stroll from the Old Town Trolley Station. Free parking is available at the trolley station.
