Ease Your Recovery

Undergoing a major cosmetic surgery procedure is challenging not only for the body, but for your daily life as well. Use these “before the big day” tips to get back to normal quickly and safely:

1. Before surgery, set up your bedroom as a peaceful haven for recovery: extra pillows, rolled-up towels to support your legs, extra books and magazines. Make sure your phone is placed in a position where it will be easy to pick up and make calls.

2. Prepare simple meals ahead of time and freeze them. At the same time, prepare ice packs for any pain or swelling. Bags of frozen veggies and gel packs work well too.

3. Arrange for someone to be with you at least 24 hours after surgery. Basic tasks and functions might be difficult due to soreness or pain, and a friend can help ease that.

4. Charge your cell phone, or use a bell, or a pair of walkie talkies to keep by the bed in case you need to get someone’s attention quickly.

5. Invest in some moisturizers to keep by your bed after surgery. Scar-reducing creams and petroleum jelly are good options for reducing the appearance of post-op scarring.
