A Movie House Like No Other

There are still many diehard film buffs that have yet to discover the brilliantly designed Joan and Irwin Jacobs Theater, housed within the Museum of Photographic Arts. Opened in 2002, the 226-seat venue is home to both classic and commercial movies, as well as films that pertain to various museum exhibits. Plush carpeting, starry lighting and arched white-stucco ceilings tell you this isn’t your typical 20-screen multiplex. Film picks often shape various seasonal themes. And about once a quarter, POP Thursdays herald in cult favorites such as Barbarella (1968), scheduled for 7 p.m., June 4. The cost is usually free with museum admission.
