Help! Winter weather seems to dry out our aging skin more with each passing year. What to do?
Good news: The Harvard Health Letter explains that most moisturizers on the market today pricey or not work well. Simply find something that feels and smells good to you.
During winter months you may benefit from an oil-based moisturizer.
Non-clogging oils include jojoba, almond, primrose or avocado. Humectant ingredients (glycerine, alpha-hydroxy acids and sorbitol) are also effective.
Rather than frequent peels, which can over-dry skin, try hydrating masks.
Exfoliate regularly to remove dry surface cells, and moisturize immediately afterwards.
Continue using sunscreen. Sun robs skin of moisture and UV damage occurs year-round.
Humidifiers are also helpful, especially in heated rooms. If you have persistent, severe dry patches, consult a dermatologist.
