Choosing the Right Vitamins & Supplements
by Michele Krauss

—[ five steps ]—

Even the best-intentioned daily diet may fall short of providing all the right nutrients. Follow these five tips to get everything you need to be your healthiest…

1. Choose the right multivitamin
Pre-menopausal women should choose a multi that contains iron and 5,000 units of vitamin A. Men and post-menopausal women can take a multi that has 2,500 units of vitamin A, which boosts the immune system.

2. Don’t overdo it!
Be careful of tacking on extra supplements to your regimen. You may have your best health in mind, but too much of any one vitamin/mineral can be toxic. Check with your doctor for the safest dosage.

3. No matter which vitamins you choose, remember to drink plenty of water
A body that’s properly hydrated is able to deliver nutrients where they need to go.

4. Consult with your doctor about any vitamins you’re taking
They could interact with some prescription medications.

5. Remember that multivitamins can’t replace good nutrition
Take an honest look at your daily food choices. A diet filled with a variety of healthy foods is the best source of the required vitamins and minerals.

Before making changes to your diet, check with your own physician for any additional concerns or potential interactions with medications you may be taking.
