Research from CA Botana International Inc. is illuminating some of the uses of essential oils as therapeutic agents. Dieter Kuster, PhD. and Executive Director of Research and Development for CA Botana, says, “Lavender is known to calm nervous tension and soothe skin inflammation.” Kuster points out that chamomile has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties and also helps in sleeping better.
In a hospital study, lavender, marjoram, geranium, mandarin and cardamom were used as aromatherapy for an effective replacement for sedatives. Take a stress break: carry a vial with you and take several deep inhalations to enjoy the aromatic effect of these calming oils.

In evaluating research on essential oils, be aware that essential oils are not standardized. Essential oils used in aromatherapy are not for internal use. Do not use essential oils in place of medicine prescribed by your doctor.
