Challenging Jobs Bring More Light to Golden Years
A recent study from Duke University Medical Center has shown that having an intellectually demanding job may translate into better cognitive ability during retirement. Other factors positively affecting cognitive ability in one’s golden years are strong social ties, good physical health and being involved with intellectually challenging activities.
Breast Biopsies Are Sometimes Not Necessary
It’s always a cause for concern when doctors see a lesion on a mammogram, but a new study in The American Journal of Roentgenology suggests that a six-month follow-up mammogram is a safe option. Biopsies can be invasive, expensive and may heighten patient anxiety. Follow-up mammograms proved to be a less stressful alternative.
Get Out of That Slump With More Activity
Although it may seem counterintuitive, the best way to combat chronic fatigue may be with more exercise. If you tend to feel tired all the time, you may think you need more rest. But a study conducted at The University of Georgia determined that regular, low-intensity exercise can help boost energy levels in those suffering from fatigue. Next time you hit that familiar slump in the afternoon, consider a quick walk instead of a snack.
To Run Outdoors or Indoors…
Does running outdoors burn more calories than running done on a treadmill? Researchers have found that while running outdoors promotes more intense exercise and burns about five percent more calories, treadmill workouts reduce the chance of injury, which allow runners to go longer and farther.
